Meet Lorie…

.

.

.

She’s a Mother of a 20 year old son, retired from corporate life making an easy transition into elder care.

LoriePupLoves her mini dachshund, but the Alpha in the house is Grace, the 17 year old cat! When she gets the chance her head’s in the sylvan cathedral like setting of an area park, or at the beach with her toes in the sand.

She was raised in the Philadelphia area and was shown at an early age how to give back. Her Mother was an R.N. and gave tirelessly of her time volunteering for the Red Cross, a free women’s clinic, and the Head Start program for children. It wasn’t until much later, that she understood her Mother didn’t have to pick the kids up, or take them to McDonalds, or give them presents. In the last few years, Lorie has followed in her Mother’s footsteps volunteering with the Red Cross, initially on the Disaster Action Team and now in Transportation Services for blood drives.

Her career was with a phone service for the Deaf and over the course of years involved training blind employees, writing cross cultural training to help operators understanding of their customers, and speaking at the Phila. School for the Blind, and the Phila. School for the Deaf. After her early retirement, friends beckoned from Florida, and it seemed almost possible she could make genealogy a full time pursuit. But that wasn’t the direction was wanted to go in and quickly found a position as an elder companion at a local nursing home. She fit in offering what comes naturally, empathy and being willing to enter their world.

Lorie believes in the connection between all people, and that even in small ways we can all make a difference. She is excited to be a part of Hope Heals; “individual service is wonderful, but there is something about the power of a group that can inspire and accomplish what no person could do.”
