The Pain Stops Here…
Late one night the parsonage phone rang and we learned that some dear friends had been involved in a serious accident. We dressed and rushed to the hospital to be with them. They were already being tended to so all we could do was sit and wait. And pray.
Over the next couple of hours we got well acquainted with ER – the Emergency Room – of our local hospital. I remember the sterile quiet of people helping people. I remember the ever-present coffee pot and some deeply dog-eared magazines. But the artifact that impressed me most was the plaque on the wall near the Nurses’ Station that read, “The Pain Stops Here.”
That’s like my church, I reflected. A place where folks from anywhere can come, be put in touch with the heart of God, and find relief from whatever pain they bring. That’s what a church does – that’s what a praying church does. That’s what your church does, right?
HOPE Heals is the theme of this song. HOPE is an acronym that stands for Houses Of Prayer Everywhere. With our 6,000 churches flung across North America, Bermuda, and Guam/Micronesia, we can have Houses of Hope – spiritual ERs – everywhere. The focused, intense prayers of God’s people can help our neighbors, our communities, our cities and our nations truly discover that His presence is where healing begins.
Please read what’s here on this site. It will change regularly – every few days – so you can keep checking back. You’ll find resources of all kinds, sermon starters, ideas, videos, life-changing books, lots of motivation. Then please spread the word. Send the web address – www.HOPE-Heals.org – to everyone you email, in your church bulletin, social media, personal correspondence…to everyone you know. They’ll be blessed, too.
Oh, and our friends who were in the accident…they both recovered. Thanks for asking.
